A Vision of Students Today

I watched the video "A Vision of Students Today" and I felt like most of it was common information to college age people. Seeing the numbers on paper put it in perspective a little bit though. Im not sure I am on board with completely going online with classes though. I think young people are being coddeled. Things are being made to fit them instead of them having to do anything difficult. Just because we read a lot of emails or are on the internet a lot doesn't mean everything has to be made to fit that. I personally enjoy a good book just as much as checking my facebook. However, it is pretty incredible to be able to get just about any information I desire by hopping on my computer. I think the internet is an amazing tool, but I dont feel that it should be a lifestyle.

  1. You are right-- there is a fine line between having students step up to meet the requirements vs. always adapting to meet the technology experiences of our learners. Sometimes there are tried and true practices that still have to occur--- like reading a book--- there is something about holding a book in your hand, flopping on the couch or reading yourself to sleep that everyone should experience. Just because you can do EVERYTHING online, doesn't mean you HAVE to. Sometimes we use technology for technology's sake but not because it is the best way to do things.

  2. Michael,
I don't thnk that any of the videos were proposing having exclusively online classes. They were promoting the use of technology for educational purposes at all levels since students today expect to be able to network and to research information online as well as listen to one teacher offer his/her prespective on subjects.
Please create a link to the video that you watched. There are videos in the syllabus that will help you do this.
You also need to create a blogroll and labels for this post.
